Ian Vincent Delmar graduates magna cum laude
Ian Vincent Delmar, son of Evelyn and Larry Delmar, of Northbrook, graduated from Northeastern University in Boston on May 3. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree Magna Cum Laude in International Affairs. Earlier this year, Delmar earned a Massachusetts license as an EMT from Boston University. He has chosen to continue his education as he serves in the United States Army Reserves.
Alyssa Petrich named to the Dean's List
Alyssa Petrich, a 2009 graduate of Glenbrook North High School, has been named to the Dean's List for the winter quarter 2012-2013 at DePaul University.
Junior earns gold in Midwest Chinese Speech Contest
During the Fifth Midwest Chinese Speech Contest April 27, GBN Academy junior Matthew Bondy won the gold medal in Chinese III category and a scholarship for studying abroad in Taiwan. The Midwest Chinese Speech Contest is an annual event in the Chinese education community in the Midwest area. This year, about 140 contestants of different levels participated in the contest. Winning both a gold medal and the scholarship is the highest prize that a contestant could achieve.
American Mathematics Contest qualifier
GBN sophomore Sam Korsky achieved a score on The American Mathematics Contest that placed him in the top 2.5 percent of students taking the test nationally. He then took the American Invitational Mathematics Examination in March in an effort to be selected for the USA Junior Mathematical Olympiad, the USA Mathematical Olympiad and/or the Mathematical Olympiad Summer Program. Sam Korsky qualified to take the USAJMO on April 30 and May 1.
Annual Grad Night hosted on June 2
The 2013 Grad Night will be offered the evening of June 2 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Grad Night provides a safe, free, all-night celebration for seniors upon graduation and is generally attended by more than 95 percent of graduates. The Grad Night Steering Committee is looking for individuals and businesses to donate prizes, food or funds. To donate or learn more, contact Grad Night Chairman Steve Isaacson at 847-656-9247 or info@gbnGRADnight.com. Parent volunteers are also still needed for second shift (2-6 am) the morning of June 3. Grad Cards are also on sale and cost $5 and are a great way to honor a graduate and support the Grad Night event. The Torch earns several NISPA awards
The Torch, Glenbrook North High School's student newspaper, competed in the Northern Illinois Scholastic Press Association's 2013 Newspaper Contest. The following students received awards: Sam Aber earned the Blue Ribbon Award for Excellence in Journalism in the Editorial Writing category; Zach Zilber earned the Blue Ribbon Award for Excellence in Journalism in the Sports Writing Category; Gabe Weininger earned the Blue Ribbon Award for Excellence in Journalism in the Photography category; Daniel Dexter and Zach Zilber earned the Blue Ribbon Award for Excellence in Journalism in the Team In-Depth category; Audrey Chou and Julia Machado earned the Blue Ribbon Award for Excellence in Journalism in the Graphics category; Resa Magill earned the Honorable Mention Award for Excellence in Journalism in the Individual In-Depth category. Torch also competed in the Overall category earning the Golden Eagle Award for Overall Excellence in Journalism. Sam Aber is the Torch Editor in Chief and Zach Hamer is the Managing Editor.
Temporary records to be destroyed
In accordance with Illinois statute, GBN will destroy temporary records for the class of 2008 graduates on June 30. Students who have graduated, transferred or withdrawn from GBN and would like to take possession of their temporary records may do so by contacting the school's registrar prior to June 30, in writing. Please mail requests to GBN, 2300 Shermer Rd., Northbrook, IL, 60062. Only temporary records will be destroyed. In accordance with the Illinois Student Records Act, GBN will retain the official transcript, records requests and health records.
