The Great Pumpkin Contest has returned.

This month, submit a photo of your pumpkin carving to enter to win a grand prize and be featured in print and online.

It wouldn’t be a Halloween contest, however, with some twists and turns. For the first time ever, this year, carvers will compete against other North Shore residents residing in our coverage areas to make it one large, spooky competition.

Think you got what it takes to take first place in the North Shore? The pumpkin carvings can be scary, with a spooky ghoul or skull; funny, with a celebrity face or clever phrase; artistic, with a whimsical festive scene; or even just a jolly jack-o’-lantern.

While there is no limit to what your carving can be, we only accept pumpkins that reside in Northbrook, Winnetka, Northfield, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Glencoe, Glenview, Highland Park, Highwood, Lake Forest and Lake Bluff, and they must be decorated this year.

Take a picture of your creative carving and send it in by Halloween night — Thursday, Oct. 31.

Include your first and last name, as well as a phone number and address. The top North Shore winner will receive Blue Man Group tickets and several runners-up will get a spooky surprise from local retailers.

Winning pumpkin photos will also be printed in the Nov. 7 issue of The Tower and six other North Shore publications.

Send entries to Editor Martin Carlino at or mail them to The Northbrook Tower, 60 Revere Drive, Suite 888, Northbrook, IL 60062.
