There is no threat to the community after Highland Park police responded to a report of a gunshot victim at approximately 2:40 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, in Sunset Woods Park near the Highland Park Hospital, reports our sister paper, The Highland Park Landmark.

The victim died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and remains unidentified as authorities wait to contact the victim’s family, according to Highland Park Police Chief Lou Jogmen.

“There is no threat to the community and no ongoing shooting or active shooter in the area,” Jogmen said.

The victim was found “right across from the hospital” in the 700 block of Park Avenue West, according to Jogmen.

According to a press release from the City of Highland Park, Highland Park Hospital was placed on lockdown after being alerted to a "possible person with a firearm in the area."

The hospital and surrounding area were searched by the police department, and were cleared of any threat. The hospital is no longer on lockdown.
