Before opening his restaurant, Highland Park resident Isaac Nava didn’t necessarily know how to cook, but he knew how to eat.

Nava turned to a professional for help with its menu, importing his mom from his hometown, Huitzuco, Mexico. Mom Florencia passed down her famous recipes that once fed Nava and his 11 siblings, and the restaurant was opened in March 2007 at 431 Temple Road in Highland Park.

Since, it’s been happily ever after — but it’s what happened before the doors opened that makes the business special for Nava and his family.
