A seventh-grade student at Northbrook’s Maple School died suddenly the morning of Sunday, Nov. 18, according to an email signed by Maple School Principal Dr. Nate Carter, Assistant Principal Betty Holzkopf and Superintendent Dr. Brian Wegley.

“It is with great sadness that we share the sudden loss of [a] Maple School 7th grader” the statement from District 30, which was sent to parents, reads in part. “[The student] passed away early Sunday morning. [The student] was an outstanding, involved student who was well-liked by [their] classmates and teachers.”

“We ask all to respect the privacy of the ... family at this time as we keep them in our thoughts.”

Trained psychologists, social workers and grief counselors will be available as a resource to students, according to Beth Preis, a spokeswoman for District 30.
