Winnetka police officers reportedly defused a tense situation Thursday, Jan. 16, after locating a missing man who was armed with a handgun.
The 51-year-old man was found in a vehicle at Tower Road Beach before being safely transported to a nearby hospital, according to a release from the Winnetka Police Department.
The man was reported missing by his family at 6 p.m. Jan. 16, the release says, and police reportedly located him 40 minutes later.
“The subject ultimately complied with police direction and was subsequently transported to an area hospital for an evaluation,” the release continues.
No arrests were made in the incident and it was resolved “without further incident or risk to the community,” police say.
The community was alerted to avoid the area at Sheridan and Tower roads due to a “significant police presence” at 7:15 p.m. via social media postings by the Winnetka Police Department.
