Glenbrook North senior Sam Korsky will forever remember the number 11,440, the first five digit integer in Pascal’s triangle.

This was the number that netted him $10,000 — $5,000 for himself and $5,000 for GBN — after he won the national math competition, “Who wants to be a mathematician,” this past Monday, Jan. 12, at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in San Antonio.

“I do a lot of math competitions,” Korsky said. “I really just like these kinds of competitions themselves and I just jump at the opportunity to do a new one.”

Congratulations, Sam! Remember you won best in Category for Mathematics at the Illinois State competition at U of I in Champaign for the IJAS Science Fair when you were in 8th grade!!! Mr. E
