"We’ve had budgets, and we’ve had balanced budgets up until the time that Governor Rauner arrived."

There hasn't been a balanced budget in Illinois since 2001. And even those budgets were phony baloney nonsense, ignoring our pension obligations. The Fed suggests the last truly balanced budget came sometime in the 1980s. https://www.chicagofed.org/~/media/publications/chicago-fed-letter/2016/...

The rest of her comments are fundamentally dishonest from a phony fiscal hawk. By the way, why couldn't Nekritz and her Democratic cohorts recognize their agenda wouldn't fly with a Republican governor?

The state of Illinois had a balanced budget until Governor Rauner took office two years ago? Illinois hasn’t had a balanced budget since 2001. In 2001, the budget balance was $300M. In 2015 the “budget balance” was -$2.9B. From 2009 – 2014, Illinois’’ credit rating was downgraded 13 times. By 2010, Illinois was the worst rated stated in the nation. State politicians have over spent and abused every loop hole possible at the expense of its residents.

Illinois has the highest median real estate taxes in the nation. Illinois has the 13th highest state and local tax rates in the country. Illinois has the 9th highest overall state tax burden in the country. These rankings were prior to tax hike on Thursday, July 6th,

There’s plenty of blame to go around. However, stating that Illinois had a balanced budget until Governor Rauner took office 2 years ago is either an uneducated or intentionally misleading statement.
